Relaxation of measures for countries on the amber list

From today (19 July 2021) things will change regarding travel for UK citizens.

Fully vaccinated citizens will be free to travel to countries from the amber list and return to Britain without the need to self-isolate upon return. Reasons of visit can be leisure, tourism, family visits, or others.

The second good news for those who plan to visit Croatia is that from 19 July 2021 Croatia will move to the green list for entering England. Feel free to check the latest info on the official government page.

Reasons for relaxation of measures

Up till now, UK had the toughest border measures, but due to the successful vaccination program (the UK is one of the most vaccinated countries in the World), things are starting to return to normal.

What does this mean precisely? Residents who are fully vaccinated will be able to travel abroad on holidays and return to England without the need to stay in quarantine. This is valid for countries that are on the amber list.

Who qualifies as fully vaccinated? Fully vaccinated travelers are those for whom 14 days have passed after the final dose.

14 days after the vaccination you can get COVID Pass (recognized in over 30 countries so far) which you will have to show during travel to transport operators and carriers on a mobile phone or printed version.

You also have to fill in the passenger locator form prior to travel and include the information about the COVID Pass if you wish to avoid the self-isolation upon return.

What about children traveling?

Children that are 4 years old or under do not need to take a test or go into quarantine.

Children between 5 and 18 do not need to self-isolate and do not need to take a day 8 test but only a day 2 test.

It is important to unplug in the sun. Additionally, by traveling you support the aviation and travel industry – these are recommendations from the UK Parliament.

Since these decisions have been announced airlines immediately introduced new flights to Croatia too.

Thus, Jet2, which is the third-largest company in the UK (after British Airlines and EasyJet) will introduce 9 lines towards Croatian airports by the end of this month. There will be most new flights towards the Split airport from the following cities:

• London, Manchester, Leeds, East Midlands, Birmingham, Edinburgh.

There will be new flights to Dubrovnik as well:

• Birmingham, London, and Manchester.

Should the good epidemiological situation continue in both countries there is a possibility to increase the number of lines to Dubrovnik in August.

Tips for British citizens when traveling to Amber list countries after 19.7.2021.

• Still check the Foreign Office travel advice often.
• Try not to travel not on busy weekend days.
• There is a possibility a longer time will be necessary to pass the e-gates where you must show the passenger locator forms. Thus, come in time and be prepared to wait.

Procedure upon return to the UK

Test for the Coronavirus

Regarding the return pre-departure test is still necessary. You have to take it 3 days prior to travel from abroad and till the second day after you return you should take a PCR test.

A day 8 test is no longer necessary.
