What is the best way to get to Brac Island

The island of Brac is easy to reach. How to get to Brac by air

Brac is the only island in Dalmatia and one of three islands in Croatia that has its own airport.

The airport is located on the plateau inside the island, close to the Vidova Gora peak, just 5 kilometers from the Bol town.Brac Airport is a smaller airport and although is open all year round, the most of the air carriers operate to Brac in the period from May to October.

The island of Brac is connected with the Zagreb, capital of Croatia, by regular domestic flights operated by air carrier Croatia Airlines. There are flights from Zagreb airport (ZAG) to Brac Airport (BWK) on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Most of the other flights are charter flights from around Europe. There are international flights to Brac from Graz, Munich, Bratislava, Linz, Kosice, Bolzano and Bern.

You can fly to Brac by helicopter. If you would like to fly from Dubrovnik, Split or some other island to Brac by helicopter, please visit Private jet and helicopter Croatia Service.

If you are looking to book a flight to Croatia and your final destination is the island of Brac, you should also look for flights to Split Airport (SPU) and Dubrovnik Airport (DBV).

You can take a private taxi transfer from the airport or hire a car and drive yourself from both airports.

There is also the option to hire a speedboat from the Split Airport. Speedboat transfer from the Split airport is one of fastest ways to get to Brac island. It takes approximately 40 minutes to get to the north side of the island and about 50 minutes to the south side of the island. Speedboats take up usually 6-8 or 12 persons and the prices depend on the boat type.

Brac is one of the most easy-to-reach islands from the mainland in Croatia.

Brac Island is linked with mainland with two ferry lines, both operated by state shipping company Jadrolinija.

There are also several fast ferry connections between the mainland and the Brac island. Some fast ferry lines are operated by the shipping company Jadrolinija and other by commercial maritime company Kapetan Luka. The fast ferry lines connect also the island of Brac with the neighboring islands, Hvar, Solta, Korcula, and Vis, and with the city of Dubrovnik.

The coastal cities, Split and Makarska, have car ferry links to the Brac all year round.

The city of Dubrovnik is linked to Brac by fast ferry line in the summer season.

The fast ferry or passenger-only ferry connects the city of Split with Bol, the small town on the south side of the island, all year round. There is also a fast ferry connecting the city of Split with the settlement Milna on the island of Brac all year round. There are several other fast ferry lines operating from April till October connecting Brac island with cities Makarska, Split, and Dubrovnik and with islands Mljet, Korcula, and Hvar. The ferry line connecting Split (mainland) and Supetar (Brac Island)

The ferry line between Split (mainland) and Supetar (island Brac) operates even 14 times a day in the high season. That number falls to 9 times a day off the season but still keeps the Brac the most reachable island In Dalmatia. The ferry ride from Split to Supetar takes approximately 50 minutes.

If you travel without a car and you are taking a car ferry, you do need to come a lot earlier than the scheduled departure time. If you are traveling by car, to be sure to board the wanted ferry, you should come earlier. In the low season and shoulder season, it is enough to arrive half an hour earlier. In the high season and especially in the peak of the season which is late July and early August you should come at least an hour and a half prior to departure time.

All car ferries are operated by the state company Jadrolinija. You can buy tickets online at the official website www.jadrolinija.hr

Be aware that you can buy ferry tickets online, but no later than a day before the departure. If you, for example, buy a ticket for the 12:30r ferry and you do not manage to get on the ferry on time, your ticket will be valid for any car ferry to Supetar on that particular date.

The ferry line connecting Makarska (mainland) and Sumartin (Brac island)

The ferry connecting Makarska (mainland) and Sumartin (in the southeast side of the Brac Island) operates five times a day in the high season and 3 times a day in the low season. The car ferry connecting Makarska and Sumartin is smaller, it takes about 25 cars, so if you are traveling in high season, be in the line for boarding on time.

This line is operated by private company Krilo Shipping. The fast ferry tickets for the journey are being sold at the Jadrolinija office in Split Ferry port and they are not being sold online. Check

How to get to Brac Island from the neighboring islands

Brac is one of the best-connected islands with other surrounding islands. Unfortunately, there is no car ferry connection between the island, but there are good fast ferry connections, especially in the season.

There is all year round connection between Bol and Jelsa in Hvar by fast ferry line from Split. The timetable is already explained. There is also explained connection with the seaside village Rogac on Solta Island.

Travel tip for booking a private transfer to Brac Island

If you need private transfer to Brac Island, ask your travel agent or your host to help you arrange this service. In most cases, it will be more affordable and you will get the quickest route possible.

The private speedboat transfer from the Split airport to the island Brac is the fastest way to get to the island. When arranging this service, make sure to check what type of boat your transfer company will use. If you have small children with you, it will be better to take a bigger boat because there are more stable in the water.

Travel tip for hiring a car on Brac Island

If you have enough time, try to arrange car hire before arrival. If you would like to have a car during one week stay, often it will be more affordable if you take your car at the Split airport and return it on the way back, than hiring a car on the island. If you would like to hire a car for just a day or two while on the island, then the price should not be the matter.
