As we already mentioned the most famous event in Umag is definitively the ATP tournament Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag. It is held each year in mid-July and this year it will take place from 22.7 till 31.7. It is our warm recommendation to visit Umag during the tournament even if you are not a huge tennis fan because the tournament includes great after-parties with gourmet events and concerts.

History of the tournament
This is the 32nd edition of this tournament. Some of the top international players won their first matches here and the winners come from all over the World.
The tournament has won many awards, but the most interesting one is for the best Fan experience which tells you a bit about the atmosphere at the tournament.

While in Umag (no matter if you come during the ATP tournament or not) there are many things you can see and do. First, we suggest you visit the Umag town walls. These walls were built in the 10th century to protect the city from attackers.
Umag town museum is also there in the Bishop's tower which was once a fortress against the sea attacks. There you will find different exhibitions from ancient times: from coins to various amphoras and stone monuments from the Umag area.
We also recommend you to visit the Church of St. Roche which is situated nearby from the main square in the Old town. The church was built in the 16th century after the plagues. It is interesting due to the oil-painted artwork on the ceiling.

What are the most popular day trips from Umag?

First, we recommend a visit to the oldest lighthouse on the Adriatic which is located in the town of Savudrija nearby. You can also take a boat trip there.
Boat trips from Umag are popular for day trips but also for scuba diving activity because Istria's underwater sea world is very interesting. Thus, you can see wrecks, ancient artifacts, various fish, and corals.

Umag hinterland
The hinterland of Umag is also interesting for a day trip. Especially if you wish to explore it by bike as you will find numerous bike trails around Umag.
While there make sure to visit one of the numerous agri-tourism estates where you will be able to taste excellent authentic cuisine and local wines.

Western Coast of Istria
Finally, we can recommend you the whole of the western coast of Istria – as there are many interesting towns on the peninsula that are easily reachable.

How to get to Umag?
As we already mentioned Umag is the first destination you reach coming from Western Europe. Thus, it has great traffic connections.
There are 2 airports in the vicinity one of them is in Croatia in Pula and the other is in Italy in Trieste which is approximately 50km away from Umag.
There are good bus connections to Umag from both airports. Also if you are interested our VIP Concierge Department can organize a private transfer for you from the airport to your villa.

Another way to reach Umag is by car. Umag is on the Istrian Y network of highways and motorways, thus coming by car is also a good option.
