Croatian Food Soparnik

Soparnik is a traditional Croatian food from the Omis area. It is similar to a pie and it is made of chard.

This is the time when we are all mostly at home and cooking. But it does not have to be boring if you try some new recipes. Today we bring you the recipe for Croatian food called Soparnik. What is great you do not need many ingredients to make it and it is suitable for vegetarians too.

Ingredients for Soparnik

  • Half a kg of all-purpose flour
  • 3-4 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 250 ml of water
  • 1 bunch of parsley
  • 1 kg of chard (Blitva in Croatian)
  • 1 onion
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic
  • A bit of salt.

Basically, the dish consists of two parts.

The first part is the chard mixture. First, you remove the hard parts of the chard and cut it to strips. You do not need to cook the chard previously. You also add the green onions to the mixture and a bit of parsley. Then you salt and oil the mixture.

Dough for Soparnik

Afterward, you make the dough. Mix the all-purpose flour with the water, olive oil, and salt and divide it into two parts. Then roll them both to a round shape. Put the first piece on the baking tray which should be dusted with flour.Then place the chard mixture on it and then cover it with the other part of the dough.

Baking of Soparnik

Firmly stick the ends together by twisting them. We recommend you to poke Soparnik before you bake it with the fork in order to bake evenly. Finally, you put it in the oven for 20 minutes and the temperature is 200 degrees Celsius.

When it is over, sprinkle it with some olive oil and garlic and Bon Appetit!
