About Biokovo Skywalk

The Skywalk is located in Makarska in the Biokovo Nature Park. The Skywalk Biokovo is a horseshoe-shaped glass platform placed off the cliff with a glass walkway. It is located in the southwestern part of the Biokovo Nature Park on the 13th km of the Biokovo road and next to the info-center. At an altitude of 1228 meters above the sea level it offers amazing views of the ocean, sky and Makarska.

In front of info-center is a geological pillar - a three-dimensional view of the cross-section of the rocks that formed the area of Biokovo from its inception to the present day with a geological timetable and description of the age and types of rocks. The platform has the capacity of 30 visitors at a time. The workers talk to each other and let you know if you can go up to the platform (from the Info-center) or if you have to wait.

How to get to the Biokovo Skywalk?

The main road entrance into the park is close to the center of the Markarska Riviera, the city Makarska, and you can reach it by car or bus. If you are flying you can fly to the Airports Split (closest) and Dubrovnik.

You can get to the main road entrance into the park from the following directions:

  • Makarska – after the left turn off the Adriatic Highway (on the way out of the city) onto the Makarska – Vrgorac national road (6 km)
  • Dubrovnik – by the Adriatic Highway to the cross roads at the entry into Markarska, turning right onto the Makarska – Vrgorac national road (151 km) and
  • Vrgorac - along the Vrgorac – Makarska national road (35 km).

From the park’s reception entrance (at 365 m a.s.l.) to the highest peak of Biokovo – Sv. Jure (1762 m a.s.l.) one travels along the Biokovo Road, which is the highest road in the Republic of Croatia. It is 23 km long, and since there is only one lane, with passing places (lay-bys) at about every 300 meters, and since it is a distinctly mountainous road, specific conditions of driving obtain, and drivers can drive on it exclusively on their own responsibility.

If you driving skills are not up to these conditions, we recommend visiting the park in a guided tour.

Apart from the brand-new Skywalk, Makarska is also famous for its pebble beaches that are just perfect for families.

If you want to try something new to eat, make sure to try the Makarana Cake that originates from Makarska.

In the evening, if you do not want to spend any more time inside you can explore the vivid nightlife in Makarska from the concerts at the Main Square to dancing in the clubs. The most popular club is - Deep, a club situated in a cove and near the sea.

If you are an active vacation lover, we recommend a trip to the Biokovo mountain to go hiking. Furthermore, you can also do rafting and zip-line if you go to Omis and Cetina River.

If you want to spend your time on the sea and love boats, you can take daily excursions (with a Yacht, sailing boat) to the islands Brac or Hvar. If you need help with booking, just contact our VIP concierge department.

Since I visited the Skywalk myself I can say that it is definitely worth a visit. The views of the ocean will be hard to forget. If you are thinking of visiting just to let you know that the tour of the Skywalk itself is short, so be sure to plan other things to do and see in Makarska. I hope this blog will help you in deciding whether you want to visit.
