History of the Lighthouse

The lighthouse was built in 1873. It was named Host after the English officer Sir William Hoste. He defeated a stronger French fleet in the battle near the island. The naval battle took place in 1811.

In front of the lighthouse, you will find a great outdoor area that is designed like a luxury yacht. It includes a shaded sitting area, sundeck, and a Jacuzzi. It is especially romantic in the evening because the Jacuzzi can be illuminated.

Beach

There is a path that leads to the private beach. The beach is rocky and the sea has a lovely turquoise color. There is also a sun deck with sun chairs where you can relax with refreshments or a cocktail gazing at the turquoise sea and nature.

Interior

The interior of the lighthouse is also romantic with stone walls and archways. It is decorated in a rustic style with details from nature. The furniture is artistic and there is a sea view from most of the interior spaces: bedrooms, kitchen, and living room.

The lighthouse can accommodate up to 6 guests and it includes 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Both bedrooms are with marital beds. As we already mentioned bedrooms are with the sea and nature view. Just imagine waking up with this view!

The kitchen and dining area are fully equipped. There is also air condition in the house and WiFi in case you need to work on your vacation. 😊

Especially interesting is the tower of the lighthouse. Once it served as a beacon, today you can climb there and take a photo or simply admire the view. And the view is simply great as you see the sea, nature and the town of Vis.

How to get to the lighthouse?

The only way to get to Vis is by ferry or catamaran from Split. The ride lasts approximately 2 hours depending on the transportation. You can also use a private boat transfer to Vis. Feel free to contact our VIP Concierge Team if you are interested in this service.

After you get to Vis the owner of the lighthouse will take you to the island. The transportation there and back is included in the price of the rental. You can also speak to the owner if you need several more rides between the island and Vis for example if you wish to go out for a dinner or explore the area. However, this service is additional and not included in the price of the rental.

Another good option is to rent a boat during your stay because the lighthouse has its own private mooring near the object. Of course, this is only an option if you are a skipper yourself or someone in your group has a boat license. Stiniva beach on Vis island

Make sure to visit the Stiniva beach on the Southside of the island. It is a pebble beach with turquoise color of the sea and it is one of the top destinations on Vis. Actually, it was voted the most beautiful beach in Europe in 2016.

Blue Cave

Another top destination on Vis is the Blue Cave. Actually, it is not on Vis island but on Bisevo island near Komiza. The phenomenon you need to see inside the cave is the reflection of the sun on the water. The whole cave turns blue from the reflection. Just check the photo below and you will see what we mean.

While on Bisevo visit the sandy beach Porat. It is huge with a long shallow area perfect for children.

Sightseeing on Vis

See Komiza on your way to Bisevo island and its Blue Cave. It is a small picturesque town with an excellent restaurant Tavern Jastozera. It will be among our recommendations for restaurants on Vis.

If you are a history lover, we recommend you to visit Fort George. It is situated about 20 minutes walking from Vis town. Actually, it is a great place to get married as well. Its top feature is the medieval garden with pine trees.

Another sight for history lovers is Tito's Cave. This is an interesting Military tour that takes you to the cave where the partisans lived during the Second World War while they were making their plans to liberate the area.

Diving tours are popular as the underworld around Vis includes plenty of wreckages of old ships from ancient times and airplanes from the Second World War.

Where to eat on Vis island?

• We already mentioned Tavern Jastozera in Komiza. It is an old lobster farm where you simply must try the lobster. They prepare it in seven ways!
• Fort George – it is the same fortress we recommend you for wedding events. It is also a restaurant with a spectacular sea view.
• Our final recommendation is the Tavern Roki a family restaurant that is a winery as well. While there make sure to try the wines from Vis: white wine called Bugava and red wine Plavac mali.

As far as the authentic meals are concerned while on Vis make sure to try Viska Pogaca. It is a pie, but we must warn you it is a bit salty from the anchovies that are one of its most important ingredients.
